Eco supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals, which aim to address global challenges such as poverty, inequality and climate change.
Our core business directly and indirectly contributes to the following goals:
Affordable and clean energy (SDG 7)
Eco currently operates in South Africa, Namibia, and Guyana – where a large majority of domestic energy is either imported electricity or carbon-intensive sources, such as coal, wood and heavy fuels oils. Our exploration efforts for light oil and gas can offer a local and lower-carbon energy alternative in these countries.
Decent work and economic growth (SDG 8)
Eco only requires a small number of people, including local country managers, in the exploration phase of licenses. However, when oil is discovered and moves into production, the indirect employment opportunities significantly increase. This could be work in accommodation, restaurants, local infrastructure, and more. We outline potential job creation in the human resources development plans, when applying for a production license.
Eco also supports skills development through various initiatives. For instance, our Sustainable Garden project in South Africa, is teaching students self-sufficient, sustainable permaculture methods. And, in partnership with Tullow, we established women enterprise development professionalism training in Guyana.
Quality Education (SDG 4)
Eco firmly believes that by providing the younger generation with the valuable skills and education needed to succeed, the whole country will benefit from growth and prosperity.
In the countries where we operate, we help ensure students have the tools and environment for success. We have provided school equipment, computers, supplies and teacher training, along with the materials to upgrade classrooms and schoolyards
